The Guidance Handbook was originally written by Cole Davis to provide knowledge to
underpin the NVQ in Guidance, a qualification for careers advisers and other guidance
professionals such as counsellors. Using his qualifications in occupational psychology
and careers guidance, Cole had the book distributed to colleges and organisations with
a development function for their guidance staff.
The book covers his specialist area, career choice, but also covers a range of skills for
guidance practitioners in other areas. Those particularly wanting assistance with career
